dvd2divx guide (introduction)

welcome to olaf's dvd2divx guide, a helpful little tutorial for backing up your dvds and turning them into divx video files for use on your personal computer. i figured out pretty much all of this on my own, and it was a huge pain in the ass because there are basically no guides for this sort of thing available online. well, to start out, you will need the following things:

- a rather modern computer (mine's 1.8ghz and 1 gig ram)
- the divx software bundle (with divx converter and everything -- get it here)
- a keygen or crack for the divx software (or just buy it!)
- dvd decrypter 3.5.4.0 (get it here)
- ac3filter 1.01a rc5 (get it here)

step 1: dvd decrypter

first, install it. next, you must configure dvd decrypter to my specifications. go to settings window, which is found under the 'tools' menu on the main window. click the 'file mode' tab, change 'file splitting' to 'none'. i believe that's all. you have to reboot to make this work, at least i did. now, after your reboot, decrypt your dvd. (:

step 2: ac3filter

just install it. nothing more to see here people, move along.

step 3: divx converter

you have to install it first, obviously. then use the keygen and register divx, i'm not going into great detail on how to. then, go to where you ripped your dvd to (via windows explorer or some shit), find the movie file with the biggest amount of content. if you have powerdvd or something, you can just watch them to find out which one has the movie in it. now, open divx convertor, and drag the big dvd file onto the window. make sure you're in "home theater" option, iunno why, i haven't done anything else or tried to. now click 'view list' and you'll see your .vob movie, click it, and click 'modify...'. click 'limit filesize to' and change it to 700mb or 650 or something, however much you want it compressed to, and click okay. now click 'convert'. after a long process, you'll have your divx movie.
